Reducer are widely used in piping systems to connect pipes of different diameters. They play a crucial role in maintaining proper flow and ensuring efficient fluid transportation. There are two types of reducers: concentric reducers and eccentric reducers.
Butt Weld Reducers
Concentric and Eccentric ASME B16.9
A concentric reducer is cone-shaped and has an axis of symmetry. It has large and small openings that align with the centerlines of the connecting pipes. The reduction in pipe size is uniform, resulting in a reduction in both the diameter and the thickness of the pipe wall.
An eccentric reducer, on the other hand, is similar in shape to a concentric reducer but has an off-center alignment between the two openings. This results in an offset between the centerlines of the inlet and outlet pipes. Eccentric reducers are primarily used to prevent the accumulation of gas pockets or condensate in horizontal piping systems where drainage is necessary.
